The typical income-oriented investor is one that is nearing retirement.

This approach will suit your needs if you are comfortable with minimal risk and have a short- to midrange investment time horizon.

Balanced

Portfolios based on this model attempt to strike a compromise between long-term growth and current income. The ideal result is a mix of assets that generate cash as well as appreciates over time with smaller fluctuations in quoted principal value than the all-growth portfolio. Balanced portfolios tend to divide assets between medium-term investment-grade fixed income obligations and shares of common stocks in leading corporations, many of which may pay cash dividends.

An investor seeking a balanced portfolio is comfortable tolerating short-term price volatility, is willing to tolerate moderate growth, and has a mid- to long-range investment time horizon.

Growth

The growth asset allocation model is built for those who are only starting their careers and are involved in creating long-term capital. Resources are not needed to produce current revenue when the owner is currently working, surviving off their paycheck for the expenses required. Unlike the sales portfolio, the consumer is likely to improve their position by depositing new funds next year. In bull markets, growth portfolios appear to outperform their peers significantly; in recession markets, they are struck hardest. For the most part, up to 100 per cent of the growth-modeled portfolio will be held in common stocks, a large amount of which cannot pay dividends and is comparatively young. Generating current income isn’t a primary goal.
